Change in Doret's work

It has already been 10 years since Doret began her work in Romania with the local organization Usa Deschisa to show God's love to one of the most vulnerable groups: women damaged by abuse and human trafficking. We would like to thank you sincerely for your involvement, prayers, and financial support during this time. At the same time, we would also like to update you on new developments and changes in Doret's work.

The past year was a year of searching for Doret. Searching for what is the right thing to do, for the place where God wants to use her. Due to changes within Usa Deschisa's board—from which Doret had already left the board of her own accord several years ago—in the way women were treated, and in financial decisions that were made, the way of working at Usa Deschisa no longer felt aligned with her calling.

In addition, it was also a matter of figuring out what was best for Florin and Larisa. After school, they were often at the shelter until Doret finished work. However, a shelter with women who have a very distorted view of sexuality is not exactly the safe and healthy environment that two teenagers need. This became increasingly complicated.

That is why Doret began praying for God's guidance in this about a year ago. During the weekends she spent in the rural village of Petru Rares, she was moved by the difficult and impoverished circumstances of the elderly residents of this village. In the meantime, with the support of Out of Abundance, Doret has already been able to help them in various ways. The work in the village is highly appreciated by the residents and supported by their mayor.

A special encounter brought Doret into contact with a Dutch man who runs the Casa Calea shelter. This house is a place in Bucharest where people on the margins of society are welcome, receive help, and hear the Gospel. The shelter is supported by the De Vluchtheuvel congregation from Arnhem. Over the past year, Doret has already helped several times, for example by translating. This eventually led to discussions about what Doret could do for Casa Calea. Currently, meals are offered to the homeless. In addition, people can shower, and there is Bible reading and singing. However, the current team—this Dutch man with a number of volunteers—currently focuses primarily on men.

The need within this organization to find someone to lead the work among women, Doret's desire to serve God in a different way, and the practical benefits for the family come together beautifully in this. During school hours, Doret will work at Casa Calea. Additionally, this leaves her with more time for her family and for her work at Petru Rares.

As the board, we fully support Doret in this decision. It is a courageous decision because this is not only a new challenge but also brings financial uncertainty. Previously, in addition to the support from Out of Abundance, Doret also received a stipend from Usa Deschisa. The latter will now cease. We therefore hope that you, too, will continue to support Doret in prayer and financially, so that Out of Abundance can provide for its finances and Doret can continue the work among the most vulnerable people in Romania and bear witness to God's love for them.
